Feasibility Study Recommends Ways to Increase Access to Broadband, Telehealth Services in Western N.C.

The study identified the broadband, health care and telehealth assets and gaps in the 20 coal-impacted counties in the Appalachian region in order to design pilot programs that leverage technology to provide appropriate clinical interventions, improve the local population’s health, increase local workforce participation and ultimately improve local economies.

Department of Information Technology’s Broadband Infrastructure Office has developed an interactive map to help North Carolina residents find free and low-cost internet and mobile service offerings in their area. The online map is updated daily with new offerings, which include free public Wi-Fi access points for remote learning and working.
