Across North Carolina, 25,825 households and 862 businesses in 33 counties will get high-speed internet thanks to nearly $80 million in additional Growing Rural Economies with Access to Technology (GREAT) grants, Governor Roy Cooper announced today.

Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) awarded North Carolina more than $1.5 billion to fund high-speed internet infrastructure under the federal Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program.

The NCDIT Division of Broadband and Digital Opportunity posted a request for proposals to prequalify internet service providers to participate in multiple broadband expansion programs, beginning immediately with the $400 million Completing Access to Broadband program.

The NCDIT Division of Broadband and Digital Opportunity today announced that its nearly 43,000 challenges to the Federal Communications Commission’s National Broadband Map aided in surfacing 115,000 additional North Carolina homes and businesses that do not have access to high-speed internet.

The division will use the request for proposals to prequalify internet service providers for state convenience contract awards to participate in multiple broadband expansion programs, beginning immediately with the $400 million Completing Access to Broadband program.
