Permitting and Dig-Once

DOT Encroachments

Placement of utilities in accordance with the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) specifications is beneficial to both parties. Watch the video below to learn more about the encroachments processes for broadband providers.

Dig-Once, Open Trench Construction Notifications

Under Executive Order 91, NCDIT and NCDOT have developed a “dig-once” policy to reduce repeated broadband installation excavations along state-maintained roads that are not part of the National Highway System.

The policy requires internet service providers using conventional open-trench construction to provide notice of upcoming joint-trench opportunities through the Broadband Infrastructure Office.

To provide notice, submit information about your upcoming project using the form on this page.

You can also sign up to receive emails when other providers submit information about projects happening across the state. Notices will also be posted on this website for 14 days.
