Lee County Schools is a predominantly rural district, with 70 percent of its K-12 students enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program. Many students do not have internet access at home, which prevents them from completing homework assignments and puts them at a disadvantage in the classroom.
During the end of 2015-2016 school year, the school district launched a pilot program to provide Wi-Fi access to third-grade students in the English as a second language program. The pilot program, now in its second year, has been well received by teachers, students and parents.
